Step-by-Step Instructional DVD Available Now!

As you guys well know by now, through this channel, I’ve been able to help tons of people set themselves and their businesses up for success through my experience in several different online marketing platforms. You know by now that I’m passionate about helping others to achieve success online because of how liberating it is. How to Set Up an eBay Store

Today’s question is from Jack over at the Wholesale Help private Facebook group. He asks, “I’ve been selling on eBay for about eight months, and just opened a store this week. A video guide about setting up an eBay store and the basics would be really helpful.” It’s an extremely good question, since we’ve talked a lot about having an eBay store, but never quite talked at length about making one.

Before we get started, let’s talk about the good things that come from having an eBay store. If you’re selling regularly and you want to list multiple items regularly, an eBay store is a good idea. In the UK, you get up to 200 free store listings that last for thirty days that you can set to auto-renew. You still pay a nominal final value fee, but you don’t get any regular listing fees. In contrast, their visibility isn’t as high as an auction item’s, but they’re a good way to list a lot of things.

Jack has already signed up for his eBay store, so we’re going to go through a few settings that I think are worth looking at. We start at the My eBay page, down on the bottom right, where you’ll see a section entitled “Manage My Shop”. This is where you can customize your store. The navigational options are off to your left side. We won’t go through everything, since there are a number of things there to play with, but we’ll hit the critical points.

The first one is “Search Engine Keywords”. You’ll want to spend time coming up with the main keywords for your store, since these will help your products to appear in the search results. You’ll have space for primary, secondary, and category keywords. Think about brand names, descriptions, and the main things that will help your stock move. Don’t put in unrelated keywords, though, because it won’t help you at all, and you can get penalized for it. Just think critically about your main keywords. If you’re having a hard time, check out the Google Keyword Tool, where you put in your primary keyword and receive the popular sub-keywords for it. An increased chance of showing up in the search results brings about more traffic to your store, which means more potential sales, so doing this well is crucial to your eBay business.

The next thing is “Display Settings” up at the top. This is where you can upload a logo for your shop. If you don’t have one, be sure to check out fiverr.com – it’s a website where you hire someone for only $5 to do a variety of things, like design a logo for your shop. It takes only a few days to get it back, and you’ll have an attractive, inexpensive logo to decorate your shop.

Also important is the “Listing Frame” subsection of “Marketing Tools”. There are tons of customization settings here, so you can change a number of things about your store. You can show your logo, display specific categories, decide how your items are formatted in your store, and a number of other options. I advise you to click around and check out the different options and play around, just to see what you like the best.

This is also where you can put a link to sign up for a shop newsletter, which leads me into email marketing. Over in the toolbar, you’ll see an option for “Mailing Lists”. EBay allows you to create your own newsletter to keep in touch with your buyers, which is a huge deal. It takes moments to set up, and the right wording can earn you repeat buyers, which earns you more money. It reminds people about you and your store, and it helps them to find their way back. You could alert people to lowered prices or when you have new stock, and it keeps them going back to your store. You can use this creatively – when I was selling iPhone cases, I offered a free screen protector to anybody who signed up for my newsletter after they purchased a case. The screen protectors were cheap enough (I got them for only a few cents each), and it convinced people to sign up. Newsletters are a great way to stay in touch with your customers, and it adds zeroes to your profit at the end of the year, so figure out how it works for your own store and put it to use.

An Easy Way to Edit Photos for Your Listings

I’ve been manipulating some images to put on eBay at the moment, and I thought you might like to have a look at what I’m doing to enhance my listings. The quality of the images you use in your listing is imperative, so it’s good to make sure they look good.

A quick piece of advice from a clothing seller – invest in a mannequin. The one I have cost me no more than $40, including shipping, and it really helps to fill out the clothes I’m selling. Using the mannequin actually lets you envision a body in the article of clothing, and it appears much more professional. It looks much better than the all-too common article of clothing on a hanger on the back of a door.

I’m listing a Fred Perry jumper today. The photo I decided to use, I took while the jumper was on a mannequin, but the photo isn’t exactly straight. To fix this, I use a software from Google called Picasa, which is free to download right from Google.

Picasa is loaded with a number of handy tools that I use regularly to enhance my photos. It features a straightening function, which lays a grid over your photo and allows you to slide the photo left or right so that it’s in line with the grid. This allows you to fix any photos that might have been taken at a slant. Once you’re finished, hit “apply”, and the grid goes away, but your image stays straight.

Also featured in the toolbar, you can crop the photo to center the photo, as well as alter the contrast and color if they’re not quite right. A helpful tool is the “I’m Feeling Lucky” option, which lets the software do the photo what it feels it needs to do in order to enhance it. Once you’re finished, you can resize the photo, as well as add a watermark for your store so the image doesn’t get stolen.

Picasa is free, simple to use software that comes quite in handy when I’m editing photos for my eBay listings. Check out the video below for a more detailed look at the program!

Terapeak – An eBay Seller’s Best Friend

Today, we’re reviewing the online research and informational tool called Terapeak, and learning how it can help you to improve your online business.

Terapeak is the #1 tool I use regularly, because it helps me to research new businesses, find new products, and refine the titles and keywords for my current business. I think of it as a jack-of-all-trades tool for selling online, so I wholeheartedly recommend you have this tool in your arsenal, because it will make a big difference.

You can get a free seven-day trial of it from the Terapeak website if you’d like to give it a shot before purchasing. Past the trial period, it’s $30 (or about £18 for those of you in the UK) – it’s not cheap, but it’s not expensive for the value you’re getting. If you’re not making what you’re paying for your subscription, you’re using Terapeak the wrong way.

I used Terapeak and its data to build and entirely new business. When I started researching my latest business, I thought I knew all there was to know about men’s clothing (which is what I sell), but Terapeak exposed me to so many new popular brands. I’d say I tripled the amount of brands in my store using Terapeak, which of course leads to new sales. But Terapeak isn’t just limited to clothes – it could apply to any market.

Terapeak is the only company with direct access to the eBay market research data. It’s basically a massive data-crunching machine. Put in a few variables, and it’ll give you facts about what’s going on over on eBay in regards to those keywords.

If you follow this link, it’ll take you to the Terapeak homepage. If you sign up for your subscription, you’ll have access to the app on your phone, much like the one you ought to see on the Terapeak homepage. Take this into the field with you as you’re buying new products so you’ll have every piece of data needed in the palm of your hand.

Click on the button that says, “Try Terapeak for free”, and it’ll take you to a page with the header, “Start your 7 day free trial and begin researching instantly”. You’ve got a few option from here. If you’re in the US, you’ll be set to use eBay.com, which is the default site listed as an option in the dropdown bar in the column under the $29.95/month option, but if you’re not in the US, make sure to select your own country to get data relevant to your country’s version of eBay. If you’ve got the $239.40 at the moment, you could opt to be billed for a whole year at once, which will save you about 50% of the price. From here, it will ask for your personal details.

Using my account, let’s take a look at what it looks like on the inside (well, as much as I can, since it is a paid website).

There’s a notification on my account that let’s me know that Terapeak now offers data from Amazon as well as eBay, which is awesome. I sell on Amazon, and there’s plenty of money in that. I haven’t personally gone through that new feature yet, but I can just about promise that it will be awesome, and I’ll do another video and blog post when I go through it. For now, let’s check out the eBay side of things.

On the top menu bar, you’ve got options for “Product Research”, “Competitor Research”, “Category Research”, “Hot Research”, “My Research”, and “Title Builder”. Just below these options is a search bar, in which you can insert your current eBay titles. It tells you, “This site researches 55 million auction titles worldwide to help you build a more profitable eBay title. Enter some keywords and press ‘go’ to receive suggestions to add to your title that will improve the performance of your listing.” This uses real facts and data to help you improve your titles.

The “My Research” tab keeps track of the sellers and keywords you’re keeping and eye on, and it’ll give you their latest data, which you can export to CSV or Excel format. You could also have it email you a summary report weekly to keep you up to date on what’s going on with these people or keywords. This helps you to monitor your niche in an organized way, helping you spot and anticipate changes in real time

In the “Hot Research” tab, you can examine hot categories, media, products, keywords, and titles, as well as rankings for the current month and previous month.

In the “Category Research” tab, you have marked and color-coded information about specific categories and the items selling in them. This allows you to hone in on what’s the hottest category before you even get started selling, to avoid selling unwanted products in cold categories and keywords. You can use this tool to find something that sells well without a lot of competition, which will optimize your own personal sales.

Over in the “Competitor Research” tab, you find people selling similar items, plug their details into this tool, and you can see what they’re selling. If you’re going to look around eBay for the type of things you’re selling, find the sellers with the massive feedback and selling lots of stuff. Stick their username in this tool, and your eyes will be opened to all their details – how much they’re making, how much they’re selling, their best-selling products, which day of the week they sell the most, which time of the day they sell the most, and everything else you could wish to know. Finding a popular product you’re unfamiliar with by way of this tool helps you to know what to do your product research on. I’ve personally had great success with these tools.

Finally, you’ve got the “Product Research” tab. If you’re using the mobile app, you’ll see this big search box by default. You can set when the tool should search, and it tells you what’s been going on for the product you’ve plugged in during the set amount of time. Terapeak used “Starwars Lego” for the past week for their example, so I do the same in the video to try and avoid Terapeak being angry with me for giving too much away. Using this tool, you can see the average price for the item, the highest price, the starting price, the average shipping costs, how many listings there were, how many of those listings sold, which days of the week the product sold the best, how many sold at what time of day, the average listing duration, listing promotions, listing types, categories it was listed under, and some general statistics about the item and how it’s selling. You can refine your search to graphical views, information about the top-sellers for this product (and then put their information into the aforementioned “Competitor Research” tab). If you’ve got a search you’d like to keep an eye on, you have the option to pin it so you can access it regularly from the “My Research” tab.

There’s a lot of money to be made on eBay, and you can tap into that by using this wonderfully helpful tool. Don’t leave anything about your business open to chance; assure that you’ll be making money by using Terapeak.

How to Spot Fake Designer Clothes

In this week’s video, we’re discussing how you can learn to spot fake designer clothing, saving you time, money, and heartache down the line. How can you discern the real from the fake, and should you care?

You absolutely should care about the difference! If you end up with a fake item and you knowingly put that fake item on eBay, you’ll be shut down by eBay because that isn’t allowed, and they do not mess around. Also, if you list something and you’re not sure of the authenticity, your buyers probably won’t be, either, and if they think they’re buying a fake item, they’ll be extremely unhappy and ready to leave you negative feedback. You should never, ever risk angering your customers – they’re your business and your reputation, and it’s worth the bit of work to authenticate your items to keep them happy.

Now, how can you tell what’s real and what’s not?

One way to decipher this is to look at the fabric. Fake items are always produced cheaply, and won’t be made of the same fabric as the real designer products. The fabric will typically be lighter and won’t feel as high quality. A lot of designer clothes are made from 100% cotton, which makes them both resilient and soft, and you won’t get that feel from a fake designer item made from some man-made fiber. Also be sure to look at the hems and seams. Often, the make of the product will not hold up to designer quality.

The next clues are on the labels. You should know where the label is supposed to be, and you should know what information is supposed to be there. They’ll often list where the product is made (although this information does change, so it might not always correspond). The branding and font will always be the same, even if the color of the text or label changes. Brands typically stick with the same font for everything regarding their logo, so if it’s not the font you’re used to seeing, ask yourself why that might be.

Sizes are tricky, because they don’t always mean that the item is a knockoff, because size is subjective based on each country. American fashion tends to be bigger than fashion in the UK, and Italy is even smaller than that. You also have to account for different fits of clothing, which impact the size measurements for each style. It’s difficult to say something is fake because your usual size doesn’t fit you because of all of these things you’re trying to take into account. Just make sure to put the measurements in your listing, because sometimes, saying you’re selling a “Size M” shirt isn’t enough because of all these international and fitting differences.

The best teacher on this subject is experience. The more designer clothes you buy and sell, the more you’ll known. You’ll get to know the feel, quality, cut, and all the rest as you continue to sell more of these items.
